This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you visit northchannelpublishing.com, purchase or participate in a North Channel Discovery, join our mailing list, create an account, submit a story or inquiry, participate in a North Channel program, or otherwise interact with us.

By using our website or services, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We may collect information that you voluntarily provide to us, including:

  • Email address

  • Mailing and billing address

  • Telephone number, when provided

  • Account and login information

  • Purchase and order information

  • Discovery licenses and products associated with your account

  • Gift recipient name, email address, mailing address, and gift message when you purchase a gift

  • Information submitted through contact forms, surveys, Story Gathering activities, Founding Explorer opportunities, story submissions, partnership inquiries, or similar forms

  • Communications you send to North Channel

When purchases are made through our website, payment information is processed by our ecommerce and payment service providers. North Channel generally does not directly store complete credit or debit card numbers.

We may also automatically receive certain technical information when you use the website, such as:

  • Approximate geographic region

  • Referring pages

  • Date and time of visits

  • Website interactions

  • Cookie and similar technology information

2. HOW WE USE INFORMATION

  • Administer Household, Educator/Group, Local Partner, and Organization licenses

  • Deliver digital gifts and mailed gift products

  • Provide information about new Discoveries, events, Story Gathering Evenings, early-access opportunities, and other North Channel offerings

  • Respond to questions, story submissions, partnership requests, and other inquiries

  • Improve our website, Discoveries, publications, and visitor experience

  • Understand how visitors use our website

  • Prevent fraud, misuse, and unauthorized sharing of licensed content

  • Maintain the security and operation of our website

  • Comply with legal, accounting, tax, and regulatory obligations

  • Protect the rights, property, and safety of North Channel, our customers, and others

We may also use aggregated or de-identified information that does not reasonably identify an individual for research, planning, analytics, and business purposes.

3. EMAIL AND THE NORTH CHANNEL DISPATCH

If you subscribe to the North Channel Dispatch or another marketing communication, we may use your name and email address to send information about Discoveries, events, publications, partnerships, products, and company news.

You may unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time by using the unsubscribe link included in the message.

Unsubscribing from marketing communications will not prevent us from sending necessary transactional messages, such as order confirmations, account notices, gift delivery information, or customer-service communications.

4. PURCHASES, ACCOUNTS, AND DISCOVERY LICENSES

When you purchase a Discovery or other North Channel product, we may maintain information concerning the purchase and the license associated with it.

This may include identifying the person or household, educator, organization, or partner to whom a Discovery is licensed.

We may use account and purchase information to provide access, maintain purchase history, administer licensing rights, prevent unauthorized distribution, and provide customer support.

5. GIFTING A DISCOVERY

When you purchase a North Channel Discovery as a gift, we may collect information about the recipient in order to deliver or fulfill that gift.

Please provide another person's information only when you have a legitimate reason to do so.

Gift recipient information will be used primarily to fulfill the gift, communicate necessary redemption or delivery information, and establish access if the recipient chooses to claim the Discovery.

A recipient will not automatically be subscribed to North Channel marketing communications solely because someone purchased a gift for them.

6. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

North Channel creates experiences that families and children may enjoy together. However, the North Channel website, customer accounts, ecommerce services, and online forms are intended for adults, parents or guardians, educators, and other adult users.

Children under 13 should not create North Channel accounts, make purchases, subscribe to mailing lists, or submit personal information to us without involvement from a parent or legal guardian.

North Channel does not knowingly collect personal information online directly from children under 13 without legally required parental consent.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child under 13 has submitted personal information to North Channel, please contact us at hello@northchannelpublishing.com  so that we may review and, where appropriate, delete the information.

The FTC requires websites covered by COPPA to obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting certain personal information from children under 13. (FTC Search)

Our website is hosted on the Wix platform. Wix and services used through our website may use cookies and similar technologies for functions such as:

  • Shopping cart and checkout functionality

North Channel Discoveries may refer visitors to museums, parks, government agencies, archives, lodging properties, local businesses, historical organizations, maps, or other third-party resources.

North Channel is not responsible for the privacy practices of websites or organizations we do not control. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before submitting personal information.

10. DATA RETENTION

We retain personal information for only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including providing purchased products and licenses, maintaining business and tax records, resolving disputes, enforcing agreements, and complying with legal requirements.

Retention periods may differ depending on the type of information and our legal or operational obligations.

When information is no longer reasonably necessary, we may delete, anonymize, or securely dispose of it.

We also do not currently intend to use customer information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

North Channel is based in the United States.
